Why Police Mutual?

Trade bodies

Police Mutual is proud to be a member of three trade organisations that work to represent the interests of friendly societies and the insurance industry.

The Association of Friendly Societies AFS Logo

Police Mutual is a proud member of the Association of Friendly Societies, the trade body that represents the interests and uniqueness of friendly societies in the UK. AFS has around 50 members who between them manage the savings and protection needs of over 4.5 million people, and have total funds under management of around £15 billion.

AFS delivers an active programme of member services and support, lobbies on behalf of its members to the UK regulator and to the UK and EU government, and widely communicates the value of the sector in helping people with limited financial resources to improve their economic status.

The Association of British Insurers

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) was founded in 1985 and currently has around 400 members. The ABI helps to shape public policy debates affecting insurance companies and represents the insurance industry in discussions with the government and regulators.

The ABI also works to promote high standards of customer service within the industry, as well as providing a voice for the industry when talking to wider audiences through the media. They organise seminars, conferences and other events where members can share knowledge and keep up-to-date on the latest trends and developments affecting the industry.

The Association of Mutual Insurers AMI Logo

The Association of Mutual Insurers (AMI) was formed in 2004 by 13 mutual insurers to enhance and accelerate development of a distinct, unified, strong, and influential mutual insurance sector within the UK financial services industry. The founding members represent around 70% of the mutual insurance market.

The AMI focuses on lobbying and public relations. The AMI represents the UK mutuals to the Financial Services Authority, UK Treasury, UK politicians, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), the ABI, the European Union, and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
