Annual General Meeting 2007
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Police Mutual Assurance
Society Limited took place on Thursday 10 May 2007 at the Royal
Bath Hotel, Bournemouth.
As in previous years there were a number of re-elections and
changes to the Committee of Management at the 2007 AGM. The
objective of the Committee of Management is to express what members
want from the Society in terms of products and services and ensure
the strong link with the Police Service continues. The re-elections
and changes are listed below:
Sir Ronnie Flanagan, HMCIC for England and Wales was re-elected
as President.
Three of the five existing Vice Presidents were re-elected.
These were Ian Johnston, Sir Paul Scott-Lee and Michael Todd. In
addition, two new Vice Presidents, Julie Spence and Paul Stephenson
were elected. Andrew Brown and Maria Wallis retired as Vice
Presidents and they were thanked for their contribution to the work
of the Society during their time as members of the Committee of
Management.
As Chief Executive of the Society, Graham Berville was
re-elected to the Committee of Management.
Six of the eight existing members of the Committee of Management
were re-elected. These were Aidan Beck, Steve Curtis, Nigel
Hibbert, Gary Horsburgh, Mick Joiner and Nick Wyer. In addition,
two new members of the Committee of Management, Glenn Milne and
Ieuan Watkins were elected. Martyn Ripley and Patricia Wood retired
as members of the Committee of Management of the Society and they
were thanked for the commitment they had shown the Society since
their appointments in 1993 and 1997 respectively.
To ensure that Police Mutual has access to external,
professional, financial and commercial advice, David Davies and
Mike Urmston were re-elected as the Non-Executive Directors. In
addition, Richard Coates and John Giffard were newly elected as
Non-Executive Directors. Bill Taylor retired as a Non-Executive
Director and was thanked for the support he had given the Society
during his term of office.
Bill Taylor also retired as Chairman of the Committee of
Management and John Giffard, formerly Chief Constable for
Staffordshire Police and a former Vice President of the Society,
was newly appointed as Chairman in his place.
Other business carried out at the AGM included receiving the
2006 Annual Accounts, Report of the Committee of Management and
Auditor's Report, approving the 2006 Remuneration Report and
re-appointing PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as the Society's
Auditor.
