JOINT STATEMENT: POLICE MUTUAL AND MPFS END MERGER TALKS

Earlier this year, Police Mutual and the Metropolitan Police Friendly Society (MPFS) issued a joint statement announcing their intention to consult members about a possible merger.

Since this initial announcement, both Societies have been consulting with members, member representatives and staff, prior to planned Special General Meetings in October, with the aim that an anticipated merger would take place in January 2010, subject to approval.

The Boards of both organisations have a responsibility to agree a set of financial terms they believe to be fair and in the interests of their respective members. However, it was not possible to agree the terms of the merger in the timescales originally intended. Both Boards are continuing to consider their positions and the options for each Society, but at this stage there is nothing further to communicate.

Both Societies remain financially strong and open for business as usual.

Police Mutual Assurance Society Limited and Metropolitan Police Friendly Society are incorporated friendly societies authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
