Chief Risk Officer

Experienced in the implementation of ERM?  Looking to join a dynamic customer focused business which truly puts the customer at the heart of the strategy? Police Mutual is seeking to develop a more forward looking and Group wide risk capability to help improve the quality of risk oversight and decision making.

To achieve this we have created a lead risk role and function to ensure that there is an appropriate risk management and governance structure that enables effective risk management and oversight to be carried out by those who are accountable.

In this role, you will assist the business in delivering it’s commercial strategy, maximising the potential from existing initiatives and helping to identify new opportunities.  You are a high calibre individual looking to develop your career in Risk by taking full accountability for the function.  You may be coming from a large FS company where you currently report to a Risk Director or from a medium sized FS organisation.  You must be comfortable and effective in strategic debate.

You will have accountability for:

  •  Strategic development of Police Mutual’s ERM including implementation and maintenance of risk systems
  •  Oversight, monitoring and reporting include full engagement with Executive Directors and Managing Board
  •  Developing a commercial risk management culture through people as well as process
  •  Creating and developing a new risk function
  •  Maintaining key external relationships to facilitate greater effectiveness of the risk function
  •  Providing a significant contribution to the wider development and performance of Police Mutual Group

    You will be a qualified professional and senior manager with at least 12 -15 years in FS, particularly in insurance.  You will have successfully implemented ERM including policy formulation and you will have a strong grasp of the fit with Solvency II.  You will have in-depth industry knowledge taking part in industry lobby groups at the highest levels.  You will also have experience of interaction with FSA at a senior level.

    You will need to demonstrate strategic and commercial thinking and be able to communicate your ideas effectively.  Police Mutual has a complex distribution model which includes a range of channels aligned to our unique affinity market, and you will need to show innovative thought leadership in developing risk management strategies in a heavily regulated industry.  Successful influencing skills will be critical for dealing with regulators, high profile external relationships, functional specialists along with Board and Committee stakeholders. 

    Most of all you will need to be a self-starter, willing to roll up your sleeves to get the job done and open to all challenges.  You need to be dynamic enough to fit with the team and to care about delivering a long-term sustainable Mutual for the Police Family.

    The role attracts a six-figure remuneration package which will reflect your considerable experience in the field.
